Reading Sheet Music
Reading sheet music properly is something that will take time and patience. Sadly, this skill does not come easy, unless you are really gifted with the ability to learn visually at an extreme pace. A lot of jobs and professions in the piano and keyboard world, dictate the need for the ability to sight-read, on sight. So you need to make sure you know your notes. See why learning piano theory is so important?
Learn To Read Piano Sheet Music
Many people have very little time to read music before performances. Whether you are playing at church, a club, or at a concert, sometimes you will not receive much time at all to go over your music. Make sure you know your writing too, because the notes you get may not be all regular notation. You could receive a piece of music that is nothing but sharps and this is rather annoying to be honest.
Your mind has to work faster than your fingers and this skill takes practice. As you are playing, you are coming up on notes you have never seen before. By the time you are done figuring out what note to play you should already know what the next note is going to be and the rhythm of that note as well. See the difficulty? This could explain why so many people choose to teach basic piano instead.
So how do you improve your sight-reading ability anyway? The answer is not magic. It does not include a free ticket to master playing ability. The answer is simple. If you want it, go and get it. In other words, you need to practice your sight reading all the time. Even just for 15 minutes a day. That is less than the amount of time it takes to have a shower!
If you keep on practicing, you will see results. As with anything in life, if you do not keep at it, you will lose the ability. A champion football player, ice skater, running, etc… cannot play or compete at their level if they never practice. It just does not work that way. So take your skills and start practicing little by little each day. In time, you will notice a massive difference and feel like a completely new piano player.
