Learn and Master The Piano By Composing Music
Where should you start your writing? Well you should start at the beginning. Many newcomers to writing music will simply start playing on the piano and then try and go back and write down everything they wrote. If you have a superhuman memory this may be the best option for you. Most people however, do not have this kind of skill in remembering every single note they wrote.
Many piano students enter the field hoping to play like the greats in just a few weeks. Most of them do not like to take theory or any other form of piano study. We all hate it but you must know, it is beneficial for your playing ability if you actually master and understand the material. You see, when you are able to read notes as if it was second nature, your performing ability will also be at a much higher level.
Everything in music is a progression. You have to take things one step at a time and do the best you can at each step of the way in order to have a beautiful picture in the end. Do your music composition in a proper manner, in a proper progression. Do not try and compose music which is above your level either. Start with baby songs, easy to play (1 note) songs, and work your way up from there.
What other benefits does composing music have for you? Well think about this, if you write music, you have to learn how to read sheet music. Therefore, your music playing ability will rocket due to the fact that you can write and read music without any problem. Your brain will no longer have to think about what notes you are playing. You will just play without thinking about it and this is when you become a really great piano player.
This process may be known to you as reverse sight reading. It works really well and we encourage you to try it sometime. If you are having trouble figuring out the notation for sheet music, this kind of exercise can also be of great benefit to you. Go ahead and compose music in areas that are of interest to you too. One of the worst things that a new piano player can do is be forced to play a type of music they cannot stand.
