Everything in music is a progression. You have to take things one step at a time and do the best you can at each step of the way in order to have a beautiful picture in the end. Do your music composition in a proper manner, in a proper progression. Do not try and compose music which is above your level either. Start with baby songs, easy to play (1 note) songs, and work your way up from there.

Therefore, your music playing ability will rocket due to the fact that you can write and read music without any problem. Your brain will no longer have to think about what notes you are playing. You will just play without thinking about it and this is when you become a really great piano player.

One of the worst things that a new piano player can do is be forced to play a type of music they cannot stand.
